Early Spring Fiddle Tree Concerts

The next event in The Fiddle Tree’s 2007 concert programme takes place at the Baronial Hall, Birnam House Hotel on Wednesday, 28 March at 8.00pm.
The main guests are “Fribo”, an exciting Edinburgh-based three-piece who combine the Scandinavian and Scottish traditions with an exuberant feel for contemporary sounds and rhythms. Norwegian Anne Sofie Linge Valdal’s beautiful and subtle vocals combined with the Highland Fiddle style of Scotland’s Sarah-Jane Summers are more than ably supported by Englishman (despite the name!!) Ewan MacPherson’s guitar and vocal nuances.
The band recently won a Creative Development Award from the Scottish Arts Council, which they have used to record their debut album, released on the popular Fellside Recordings label. Their appearance in Birnam is part of a national tour to promote the album’s release.

The opening set of the evening will come from the immensely talented young acoustic duo “Wingin’ It”, who were a huge hit when they appeared at the Baronila Hall in November supporing Rancho Rebop & The Full Moon Howlers.
The duo comprises Adam Bulley (mandolin / guitar) and Chas Mackenzie (guitar). Recent highlights for the lads include winning a “Danny” award at January’s Celtic Connections Festival and supporting Wolfstone at The Renfrew Ferry.

Foot Stompin’
The April concert will be a very special evening, when “Moishe’s Bagel” bring their incredible rip-roaring, foot-stomping, jazz-inflected klezmer and Balkan music to Birnam for the only Highland Perthshire stopover of their UK Spring Tour.

Formed in Edinburgh in 2003, Moishe’s Bagel combines the energy and passion of Eastern European folk music with the excitement and soul of improvisation. Boasting some of the best instrumentalists that Scotland has to offer (their line-up includes members of Salsa Celtica, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Celtic Feet, Scottish National Jazz Orchestra), they are equally at home jamming in a late night jazz den, grooving at a forest festival, or enthralling an upmarket concert hall.
Their music is described as an intoxicating, life-affirming mix of Eastern European dance music, Middle Eastern rhythms and viruoso performances.
“Moishe’s Bagel” appear at the Birnam House Hotel on Wednesday, April 18th at 8.00pm (no support).
