Enchanted Forest at Faskally

Perthshire’s renowned Enchanted Forest sound and light show is set to delight the senses when it returns to Faskally Wood near Pitlochry from 19 October – 4 November with a brand new theme. It is hoped that the event, which has become established as Scotland’s premier sound and light experience since its launch in 2002, will attract a record 20,000 visitors.

The focus of this year’s event will be ‘Creation’, with spectacular lighting effects being used to illustrate the earth’s history from its early volcanic state, the Ice Age and the Jurassic era right through to modern times.

On arrival visitors will follow an illuminated pathway through Faskally woods, where the sound and lighting will be themed to represent the earth’s original magma state. Arriving at a special lochside viewing area, visitors will be treated to a spectacular 10 minute choreographed sound and light show which, with the help of high level aerial lighting effects, coloured water jets and smoke, will gradually see a scene of turmoil develop and the loch turn into a bubbling cauldron!

Following the explosive start, more subdued lighting effects will follow, giving the impression of the earth as a blank canvas ripe for development, with greens and yellows becoming the predominant colours as the foliage and natural structure are highlighted. The finale of the show will see the loch take on the appearance of a modern day cityscape, with a series of artificial structures being created via solid blocks of light around the loch’s perimeter.

One Hour Experience

After the show visitors will be able to follow the path around the loch and through the forest where they will go on a kaleidoscopic tour of the seasons, with bright yellows and spring greens building to bright ambers and yellows, indicative of a summer’s day, before crossing a brightly-lit bridge with moving ripple effects projected along its length and into the water on either side.

In the final part of the tour visitors will enter the aptly-named ‘mystical wood’, with light effects shining down from the tree-tops onto the pathway below creating the magical effect of illumination from on high. Smoke and fog will add to the ethereal atmosphere as visitors are transported to a place that really is out of this world!

The whole experience will last well over an hour, although visitors are encouraged to linger longer and savour the atmosphere.

Hamish Murray, Chairman of the Enchanted Forest Steering Group and organiser of this year’s event said: "The Enchanted Forest has gone from strength to strength since it was launched, and is now established as one of the biggest and best events in the Scottish events calendar. It’s a fantastic showcase for our forests and illustrates that they are year-round recreational facilities, not just somewhere to visit on a summer’s day.

"Our brand new theme, coupled with our most ambitious and exciting sound and light show to date, means that this year’s Enchanted Forest is sure to be the biggest and best yet. We hope thousands of visitors from across the country will join us to help celebrate one of Scotland’s most outstanding natural resources".
