Blair Atholl Auld New Year Event 12 January

To mark the beginning of Highland Year of Culture, Atholl Country Life Museum is hosting a night of ceilidh-style entertainment in Blair Atholl village hall on Friday 12 January 2007 from 8pm.

This is to celebrate the Scottish tradition of ‘The Auld New Year’ with the star of the evening being well-known personality, comedian, singer and piper Norman Maclean, supported by other entertainers including Dolina MacLennan. There will also be dancing, a stovies and clootie dumpling supper and old traditions re-enacted.

‘The Auld New Year’ was still being celebrated on 12 January in some country areas until well into the 20th century. This was a tradition harking back to the time when the Julian calendar was finally superseded by the Gregorian calendar in the mid 18th century which made an eleven days’ time difference, but folk liked to hang on to the days of their old traditional celebrations.

This will be a fun night for all the family so put it in your diary now!
